BANGALORE: Attempting to push his way through the Guinness Book of World Records, G.C. Umesh, an agriculturist from Gondachittanahalli in Shimoga district, did 120 single-handed push-ups in 60 seconds here on Saturday. In the presence of the Athletic Association of India (AAI) officials, Mr. Umesh showed off his biceps' power that has already earned him a place in the Limca Book of Records. A 10th standard pass, Mr. Umesh dedicated his accomplishment to his family and friends who have stood by him. AAI official Sathya Narayana said that the feat has been certified by the association and will be sent to the Guinness authorities by Tuesday. When asked about what the current record for push-ups was, Mr. Narayana said that it was 100 in one minute. "But what Mr. Umesh did was single-handed push-ups. I do not know what the record is for this category," Mr. Narayana said. The record will gain entry into the Guinness Book if it passes muster with the record officials if and when they arrive, he said.
