Bangalore: Medical and nursing students, representatives of NGOs and the State Medical Education staff participated in a rally organised by the Karnataka State TB Association from Raj Bhavan to Town Hall here on Saturday to mark World TB Day. The rally was flagged off by Governor T.N. Chaturvedi in the presence of Minister for Health R. Ashok and Minister for Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda. They carried banners educating people about the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) and about the early detection and treatment of persons with TB. A function was later organised at Town Hall to felicitate the DOTS providers (DOTS is a programme under the RNTCP wherein the patient has to come to a particular centre to take his medicines) across the State. The Karnataka State TB Association had organised an essay competition on TB for children sometime ago and around 50 schools participated in it. The winners of the competition were given prizes at the function on Saturday. Mr. Ashok said the general public should work towards spreading awareness about TB and become DOTS providers.
