One killed in accident

KOCHI: One person was killed and 20 injured in a collision between a mini-lorry and private bus at Aluva on Saturday. The Aluva Traffic Police said that Kasim C.K. of Thaikkattussery, driver of the mini-lorry, died. Of the injured, four bus passengers were admitted to hospital. The bus was going to Munnar from Aluva. — Staff Reporter

Awareness rally reaches city

KOCHI: The march undertaken from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram to create awareness on the need to bring amendments to laws pertaining to water use reached Kochi on Saturday. It is organised by the Plachimada Coca-Cola Virudha Samara Samity. The theme of the march is "water for life, water governance to the people". K Ramkumar, senior lawyer, inaugurated the Kochi leg of the march. — Staff Reporter

Cruise liners to call at port

KOCHI: Cruise liners Queen Elizabeth II and Radisson Voyager will call at Kochi on Sunday, carrying 2,750 passengers. They will leave the port on Monday. Marvel Tours, ground handlers of the vessels, said that cruises in the Kochi and Alappuzha backwaters and land tours of the other places had been arranged. — Staff Reporter

KWA warning

KOCHI: The Kerala Water Authority has said that the consumers of Chellanam who have defaulted in paying bills must clear dues before March 30, failing which their connections would be cut without notice. — Staff Reporter

Traders' appeal

KOCHI: The merchants who had to surrender land at Eloor for the Kalamassery-Vallarpadam terminal road have demanded that they be rehabilitated in a proper way. As of now, the evictees have been given only nominal compensation. A meeting of merchants and local residents held on Saturday demanded a better deal from the Government. — Staff Reporter
