New Delhi:
Union Law Minister H.R. Bhardwaj has agreed to consider increasing the retirement age for judges of the Supreme Court, High Courts and subordinate courts.
R. Shanmugasundaram, Rajya Sahba member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam told The Hindu that he made this suggestion in view of the huge pendency of cases.
Making a `special mention' in the House on Wednesday, he requested the Centre to bring in necessary legislation and pass orders at the earliest.
Mr. Shanmugasundaram said the retirement age of Supreme Court judges must be increased to 70, of the High Court judges to 68 and of the subordinate judges to 65.
