It's a spirited move by children

PUDUKOTTAI: Fastening the buckles of the catchy pink roller skates, R. Karthigaiselvi looked ahead the distance she had to cover in fast pace to outshine her equally keyed-up counterparts.

When the whistles blew, she made her final adjustments to her wrist guard and glided over the cemented grounds of Seethalakshmi Vidyashramam. The 1,500-metre race was spirited and yet the six-year-old stroked her wheels on ground with ease and speed and emerged the winner of `Ring race' at the under-six category.

The S.L.V. Roller Skating Club's III Annual Day Skating Tournament offered many such moments of glories for kiddo participants.

The tournament had 12 events, including ring race, road race and skate hockey for students under 12 years. In the skate tournament, T. R. Rajaraman-led team, all from class V, got past Ajay Santosh's boys to win the tournament cup.

The road race, which was flagged off at 7:30 a.m., lasted for an hour and half, making T. Gladson Williams emerge winner in `Under10' category for boys. In the girls' event, K. Radhika (Under 10) and K. Jainab Fathima (Under 12) finished first. The road race was no less tricky for the tiny tots below six. While Karthigaiselvi finished well ahead of her counterparts, Jagat Saran came first in the boys' category.

The club president S.V.S. Vijayakumar, presided over the function and the Inspector of Police, Ganesh Nagar, P. Deivam, distributed prizes to the winners.
