NEW DELHI: The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma has warned that the party would take strict disciplinary action against rebel candidates if they do not refrain from campaigning against the party's official candidates in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections. With two sitting Councillors of the MCD, Deepika Khullar of Ward 78 Jagatpuri and Parveen Bansal of Ward 61 Ambedkar, standing as independent candidates this time and opposing the Congress candidates from their wards, the party has decided to step in. Mr. Sharma said as over 12,000 applications had been filed for the party tickets, there was bound to be some resentment as there were only 272 wards for which tickets could be given. However, while the party has spoken to most of the ticket aspirants who failed to get a ticket, it was still trying to win over others. "We are talking to these rebel candidates and trying to persuade them to support the official Congress candidates. However, if they do not listen and continue to campaign against the party candidates, then action would be initiated to expel them for anti-party activities," Mr. Sharma added.
