THRISSUR: The Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu Devaswoms have decided to hold a small-scale version of the Thrissur Pooram, with a minor `Ezhunnelippu' (ceremonial procession) featuring a single elephant, if the alleged crisis faced by the festival is not solved. The decision was taken at meetings conducted by Devaswoms here on Sunday. In separate statements, the Devaswoms said the decision should not be viewed as a threat or a negative stand.
No solution in sight
"The Devaswoms have taken this decision as there is no solution in sight. Without percussion ensembles and display of fireworks during day and night, the Pooram would not be complete. Religious festivals in the State are facing a crisis on account of existing sound pollution rules, their interpretation and court directives," the Thiruvambadi Devaswom said. The Paramekkavu Devaswom said it was unfortunate that the age-old festival was under threat. The Devaswoms urged the State Government to intervene on the issue.
