Bidar: The strike by members of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Employees Union entered the third day in Bidar on Monday, with the protestors locking the offices of the executive engineer and senior officials of the company. The employees have alleged that executive engineer L. Lakshmikanth made baseless allegations against some union leaders and are seeking an explanation from him. They are also demanding better facilities in their residential quarters. Mr. Lakshmikanth has denied the allegations, describing the strike as "a ploy by vested interests" with the aim of getting him transferred. The protestors have refused to go to Gulbarga to meet senior officials for talks. "We will not back off until the company Managing Director meets the striking workers in Bidar," said union vice-president Kashinath Beldale. G. Raju, treasurer of the central committee of the union, and joint secretaries Munirathnam and Devarase Gowda arrived in Bidar to address the protestors.
