Resignation of Hassan ZP president, deputy accepted

HASSAN: The Government has accepted the resignation of the Hassan Zilla Panchayat president Annappa Shetty and its vice-president Kamakshi Raju to be effective from March 22 and March 23, respectively.

Disclosing this here on Monday, panchayat chief executive officer F.R. Jamaadar said he received communication from the Government in this regard on Monday. He would intimate this to the Regional Commissioner, Mysore, who is the Election Officer for the elections to the two top posts in the panchayat.

Following a direction from the district in-charge Minister H.D. Revanna, panchayat vice-president Ms. Kamakshi Raju submitted her resignation to the panchayat president on March 7, while panchayat president Mr. Annappa Shetty handed over his resignation letter to Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, in Bangalore on March 8.

As per the Karnataka Panchayati Raj Act, panchayat president and vice-president will have 15 days to reconsider their decision to withdraw their resignation. If they do not withdraw their resignation within 15 days, then their resignation would be accepted. Hence, their resignation has accepted effective from March 22 and March 23, respectively. A new panchayat president and vice-president would be elected for the remaining eight-month period (of the 20-month term). The panchayat president is to be elected from OBC (A) and vice-president from SC (Woman) category.

Now, the Regional Commissioner, Mysore, will announce the calendar of election.
