Belgaum: Poet G.S. Shivarudrappa has called upon people to stand up against the socio-economic and cultural evils confronting society. Speaking at a felicitation organised by KLE Society here on Monday, he said that society was facing the biggest challenge from misuse of science and technology for manufacture of destructive weapons. "We have the choice between `Buddha' and `yudh.' The former symbolises non-violence and peace, and the latter violence and destruction." Socially conscious people were seriously concerned over the falling standards in moral values and were hoping for a world of peace and love, he said. Almost all streams of socio-cultural life were being polluted in different ways. This problem should be addressed collectively, Dr. Shivarudrappa said. Those who lauded Dr. Shivarudrappa's contribution included writers M.M. Kalburgi and Chennaveer Kanvi. Writer Chandrakant Kusnoor observed that poetry was a tribute to social consciousness. The felicitation was carried out by KLE Society chairman Prabhakar B. Kore, MLC, in the presence of Siddharam Swami of Nagnur Math. Minister for Horticulture Shashikant A. Naik and Suresh Angadi, MP, were present on the occasion.
