KANCHEEPURAM: Properties of the Poonamallee Tahsildar Office was attached on Monday in a land acquisition compensation case on the orders of Fast Track Court-III, Poonamallee.

The State Government had acquired 100 acres from 200 persons of Pullarambakkam, Myilapore, Pakkam, Poththur and Aalathur villages in Tiruvallur district in 1990 for the Krishna Water Canal Project.

The landowners filed appeal petitions under the Land Acquisition Act at Poonamallee FTC-III after the Government fixed Rs. 200 as compensation for a cent. After hearing the case, FTC-III Judge Anbazhagan passed an order in 2003, directing the Government to pay a compensation of Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000 for a cent based on the income realised by the owners, and remit the amount within three months.

Subsequently, the Government went in appeal before a Division Bench of the Madras High Court which, in its interim order issued in 2004, ordered that Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,000 for a cent be paid to the affected parties. But, the Government failed to remit the compensation in the lower court as per the interim order. The landowners approached FTC-III in 2006 seeking action against the Government for non-execution of the order.

FTC-III judge Asokan issued an order to attach the properties of the Poonamallee Tahsildar Office.

Following this, the affected parties remitted the court attachment order execution charges on March 17, and the order was executed on Monday.
