NOT NOW: The launch of the film ` Mozhi' on home video has been postponed.
CHENNAI: As director Radhamohan's `Mozhi' continues to do good business at city theatres, the launch of the film on home video has been postponed indefinitely. Earlier, it was formally announced that the Pyramid Saimira Theatre film would be released on VCDs for Rs 28 and DVDs for Rs 32 by optical disc maker Moser Baer to compete with the prices of pirated copies in an attempt to curb piracy. Pyramid Saimira chief co-ordinator R. Venkatakrishnan said they had managed to prevent piracy of `Mozhi' for the four weeks since it hit theatres.
Surprise success
Initially, the film starring Jyotika, Prakash Raj, Prithviraj and Swarnamalya was expected to have limited appeal, as it isn't the usual masala fare appreciated by majority of the Tamil film-going audience. But from one show a day, some city theatres have increased the frequency of screenings to eight, most of which are running to full houses. The film is now running at four theatre complexes in the city and two on the outskirts, said Mr. Venkatakrishnan. He said due to this, launch of `Mozhi' home videos have been postponed for a few weeks. "We are not waiting for the film to continue its run. We are waiting for the right time and will take a decision after April 14," he said. Moser Baer chief operating officer, entertainment business, G. Dhananjayan, said he had been requested by the filmmakers and producers to hold the launch of the `Mozhi' home videos, and he respects their wishes. "The film was not expected to do so well. Let us not trouble the market," he said.
