The Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode witnessed an unusual sight on Monday. Four ambulances were lined up on the ground, as the National Football League (NFL) Second Division match between Viva Kerala, Kochi, and Chirag United, Kolkata, was being played. But when it was really required, not a single ambulance had arrived. The game began 25 minutes late as a result. The organisers panicked and called up just about every hospital in the city and to ask for an ambulance, when the regular one failed to turn up in time. It was only when those ambulances arrived that those present in the stadium could figure out what was happening. Surely, there was more space for a few more ambulances on the ground? "Well, three more ambulances had arrived, but they were asked to return at the gate," revealed A.V.M. Ashraf, secretary, Kozhikode District Football Association, which is hosting the league.
