Bank to give 60 computers to schools

MANGALORE: Government schools in Dakshina Kannada district will receive the much-needed fillip in imparting basic Information Technology- related if an indication given by a State Bank of India official at the launch of the District Credit Plan here on Tuesday is anything to go by.

The official was responding to a request made by the Deputy Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao at the function.

Mr. Rao said that banks would go in for periodic system upgrading to meet their specifications while implementing core-banking solutions in their respective branches.

This would leave them with a set of old machines, Mr. Rao said.

These could be made use to promote computer education.

He urged bankers to send a proposal in this regard to their respective corporate offices for approval and subsequent implementation.

Banks could come forward to adopt schools for the purpose, he said.

V. Eswaran, regional manager, State Bank of India, Mangalore, said his bank was ready to provide 60 computers to schools as requested by the Deputy Commissioner.

Mr. Rao said that such initiatives would go a long way in making students of government schools in Dakshina Kannada tech-savvy.
