Letters to the Editor
Death sentence for Monu Mittal and life imprisonment for seven others within 16 months of the murder of Manjunath Shanmugham killed in Lakhimpur Kheri after he threatened to take action against the owners of the Mittal Automobile Petrol Pump are significant. The verdict has brought some solace to Manjunath's family and friends. Of course, it is only the beginning of a long legal battle. The system should gear itself to ensure the finality of the verdict.
H.R. Bapu Satyanarayana,
For a change, justice has been rendered in less than two years to the family. The speedy conviction deserves praise. It will serve as a warning to the corrupt.
Shahabuddin Nadeem,
The judgment has revived the hopes of millions in our judicial system. Manjunath represented the youth of this country the fearless crusaders against the scourges of society, one of which is corruption. Manjunath's killing was not just another homicide but an attempt by the mafia to stifle the voice of the nation's conscience. The people will always remember Manjunath's supreme sacrifice.
V. Venkatasubramanian,
Manjunath's courage in the face of threats to his life is unforgettable. Just as the government honours freedom fighters who spent a part of their lives in jails, people like Manjunath, who sacrificed their lives by being upright and honest in their work, should be honoured in a befitting manner so that they will serve as role models for the generations to come.
B. Madhava Murthy,
