Coimbatore: Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), K.V.S. Murthy on Tuesday handed over recovered stolen properties worth over Rs 2.20 crores to the owners at a function held at the City Police office. The Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, K. Rajendran, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan, Salem City Police Commissioner, K. Gopalakrishnan, Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, M.N. Manjunatha (Coimbatore), A. Alexander Mohan (Salem) along with the Superintendents of Police from seven districts in the West Zone took part. He handed over property worth Rs. 2.01 crore to owners from the Nilgiris, Coimbatore Rural, Erode, Salem Rural, Salem City, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. West Zone had recorded 89 per cent recovery in 2006 and the recovery rate till February 28 was 90 per cent. The restored properties included 1,658 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 1,900 grams of silver, 1,010 cellular phones and cash Rs. 50.49 lakhs. In Coimbatore City during the last six months, 176 cases were detected leading to a recovery of Rs. 24,55,940 out of stolen property of Rs. 27,64,940. The ADGP handed over Rs. 19.10 lakhs worth of recovered stolen property to owners from Coimbatore City, which included 104.75 sovereigns of gold jewellery.
