BANGALORE: Southern Blues recorded its first victory and bagged full points in the George Hoover Cup senior division football league with an emphatic 3-1 win over ADE at the football stadium here on Tuesday. It was ADE that went into the lead in the 38th minute through Wilfred. But a twin strike from Jayaprasad in the 56th and 93rd minute with Don Bosco netting in between in the 60th minute ensured Southern Blues got full points from this fixture. Southern Blues with this win have six points (one win and three draw) from seven outings while ADE have just one win to show from its six matches for a tally of three points.
BEML posts win
Earlier, BEML downed AGORC by an odd goal in three in an `A' division fixture. Gopi (45th and 69th) struck for the winner while Raju (Jr) netted AGORC's lone goal. ASC and DYSH have already earned promotion from the `A' division this season.
Maruthi slams century
Maruthi Shanbal's 123 guided State Bank of India (SBI) to a five-wicket victory over Advocate Association CC in a KSCA Group II, second division league match here on Tuesday. Advocate Association scored 265 for five in 50 overs with C.G. Sundar slamming an unbeaten 102. SBI surpassed the score in 49.3 overs. The scores: Advocate Association CC 265 for five in 50 overs (C.G. Sundar 102 n.o., Suresh 43, Rajendra 43) lost to SBI 267 for five in 49.3 overs (Maruthi Shanbal 123, Manoj Turakhia 55 n.o., Bhaskar 52). BEML Rec. Club 248 for seven in 49 overs (M.K. Srinivasa 47, Raghotham 82, P.V. Sumanth 69 n.o., Manjunath four for 73) lost to MPM, Bhadravati 249 for nine in 47.3 overs (Manjunath 106, J. Nagaraja five for 50).
Merchants posts win
Merchants FC (Mangalore) edged out Mukkacherri Arts and Sports Club (Ullal) 5-3 in a tie-breaker in the Olympian Sanjiva K. Uchil memorial tournament played Mangalore on Tuesday. Merchants wiped out a two-goal lead enjoyed by MASC well into the second half and forced the game into a tie-breaker.
Shiyab strikes
Shiyab put the Ullal side ahead with a goal in the 20th minute of the first half and Shameer doubled the lead in the sixth minute of the second half. Shamsheer reduced the margin for Merchants six minutes later and teammate while Mustafa equalled in the 24th minute.
Sunil Joshi excels
Left arm spinner Sunil Joshi spun a web as he scalped eight wickets and set up Canara Bank's seven-wicket victory over HAL in a KSCA Group II, first division league match here on Tuesday. The scores: HAL 108 in 35 (Sunil Joshi eight for 17) lost to Canara Bank 111 for three in 18.2 overs.
