PALAKKAD: The Walayar police arrested eight persons, including three suspected to be involved in the robbery of Ezhakkad branch of Kanjikulam Service Cooperative Bank involving Rs.4 crore, from KTC Junction at Pudussery on Tuesday. Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Town South Station, T.C. Mani said that on February 23, 2007, the bank safe was broken open and 44 kg. of gold and Rs.2.39 lakh in cash were stolen. Those suspected in the bank robbery case are Somu (20), son of Ramu of Uludurpet, Villupuram near Chennai; Shankar (19), son of Kanairam of Villupuram and Sanyasi (70), son of Somavaram of Villupuram. The five others arrested along with them are suspected to be involved in some other robbery cases. They are Kannan (45), son of Govindan, Villupuram; Perumal (45), son of Kannan of Shelayur, Chennai; Ramu (35), son of Pavdas of Villupuram; Ayyaswami (38), son of Pichakkaran of Villupuram; Ramu alias Ramalingam (35), son of Madhavan of Shelayur, Chennai.
