`Crisis ministry' to bring solace to people in villages of Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: The Sabha Council of the Mar Thoma Church has launched a State-wide counselling programme bringing solace to the terminally ill people at grass-root level. The Council has named it `crisis ministry'.

Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Thimotheos, bishop of Kunnamkulam Malabar Diocese, inaugurated a three-day pre-counselling workshop at Shalem Mar Thoma Church, Chungathara.

The Church authorities said that the Council chose Malappuram district to launch the programme because of the district's backwardness in many areas, including awareness.

The Council will train volunteers not only in trauma and palliative care, but in psychological counselling as well. The counsellors will go to villages, covering almost every household, and offer solace to the terminally ill.The `crisis ministry' will be extended to other parts of the State soon.
