GUNTUR: South Central Railway General Manager D.N. Mathur on Tuesday inaugurated the office premises of Participation of Railway Employees in Management (PREM) at Pattabhipuram. This is the last visit of Mr. Mathur before he retires on March 31. He later inaugurated a new tennis court near the railway quarters and a new canteen on the DRM's office compound. Guntur Divisional Railway Manager C.S. Chauhan explained the various improvements being carried out on the railway station premises at a cost of Rs. 64 crores. He said that the station was being developed as an A-class one. All the unreserved ticket counters would be upgraded with display of electronic fare. Plans were afoot to open a Union Bank ATM on the station premises, with facilities for issuance of railway tickets. A new VIP lounge and an air-conditioned waiting room would be constructed, he added. The office would host quarterly consultative meetings among employees to deliberate the ways and means to improve passenger amenities and the performance of the Railways.
