Arsenal, Chelsea fined

LONDON : Arsenal and Chelsea were each fined 100,000 pounds on Tuesday for the brawl that marred the League Cup final.

The Football Association also reprimanded both clubs for the melee that resulted in three red and two yellow cards in the 90th minute of Chelsea's 2-1 win at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on February 25.

The FA's disciplinary commission described the incident as ``serious, unacceptable and damaging to the image of the game.''

Arsenal's Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor and Chelsea's John Obi Mikel were all sent off.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and Arsenal's Arsene Wenger went onto the field to calm their players.

The clubs admitted to the charge of failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative or violent behaviour. — AP
