Police seize 140 bags of rice in Arakalgud

HASSAN: Arakalagud police seized 140 bags of rice (each containing 60 kg) from a lorry near Ramenahalli in Arakalagud. The rice was being transported from a fair price shop in Doddabemmatti to K.R. Nagar.

According to Police, they tried to stop the lorry near Tejur on Sunday night. But the driver tried to escape. Police then chased the vehicle and stopped it near Ramenahalli. They brought the lorry to Arakalagud and arrested its driver Kumar. Search is on for other two persons. Police lodged an FIR in Arakalagud Court on Monday.

The driver was produced in court on Tuesday. Police said they would handover the lorry along with the rice bags to the Deputy Commissioner as the rice was meant for distribution through the fair price shop.
