BHADRACHALAM: All roads led to the temple town as a large number of devotees descended on the banks of the Godavari to witness the celestial wedding here on Tuesday. Gaiety and fervour marked Sriramanavami. The day began with a religious procession as the festive idols were given a sacred bath in the Godavari and brought to Mithila stadium in a palanquin. Archakas led the procession sanctifying the passage to the stadium where Sitarama kalyanam was performed even as the town echoed to Vedic hymns. The idols were seated in the richly decorated kalyanamandapam which was packed. Devotion all over Devotees, young and old alike, were busy penning `Rama namam' while others were immersed in devotion. There was some distraction when Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy entered the stadium. The idols were adorned with `Pachala pathakam' and `Chintaku pathakam' gifted by saint-poet Bhakta Ramadasa. Earlier, they were taken round the kalyanamandapam. Later, Lord Rama was united in wedlock with Sita.
Minister for Endowments J.C. Diwakar Reddy presented `mutyala talambralu' on behalf of the Government keeping in with the tradition. They were later distributed in different centres of the town.
