RBI counters

HYDERABAD: All regional offices of the RBI and branches of agency banks conducting Government business will extend the banking hours by keeping the counters open from March 26 to 31 to facilitate receipts of taxes. Lathi-charge condemned

Gulbarga: Members of the All India Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane staged a dharna in Gulbarga on Tuesday, in protest against the recent lathi-charge against some of its members in Mandya.

Protesters gathered in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the morning. They shouted slogans against the State Government for failing to provide ration cards to poor people in the State.

"The police have carried out an inhuman act AIJMS members who were protesting against the improper distribution of ration cards in Mandya," district treasurer Chandamma Gola said. She demanded action against officials responsible for the lathi charge. — Staff Correspondent

Hassan witnesses heavy mist

HASSAN: There was heavy mist in Hassan on Tuesday. The visibility was very poor at 7 a.m., which cleared only after 9 a.m. Buses were seen operating with headlights during the day. Despite the onset of summer, it is cool during the mornings while at noon temperature shoots up to 35 degree Celsius. — Staff Correspondent

Wall collapse: four feared trapped

VISAKHAPATNAM: A worker was seriously injured while four others were said to be trapped under the debris when the wall of a private godown collapsed near the RTC Depot in the 47th ward of Gajuwaka here on Tuesday evening.

Fourteen workers were in the godown around 5 p.m. when the wall collapsed. While nine workers escaped, five were trapped under wheat loads and debris. On getting information, police reached the spot around 6 p.m. and requisitioned the services of gas cutters and a poclain.

Fatal fall

Kakinada: Panepalli Suresh (10) who fell down accidentally while playing from the first floor of a building in Mehar Nagar area here succumbed to injuries at the government general hospital on Tuesday. The Kakinada two town police have registered the case. -Correspondent
