BJP calls for hartal today

Staff Reporter

In protest against arrest of BJYM workers

KOLLAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the Kollam Corporation area on Wednesday.

The hartal call was in protest against the arrest of nine Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists on Tuesday and slapping of non-bailable offence charges against them, BJP district president Kizhakanela Sudhakaran told mediapersons here.

The nine activists were arrested for barging into the Corporation Council hall and stalling the budget presentation proceedings.

The BJYM activists allege that the corporation budget is a document prepared by the Asian Development Bank.

It was to register their protest that the BJYM activists entered the council hall, Mr. Sudhakaran said. The BJYM activists did not destroy any public property. However, the police charged them with destruction of public property and other non-bailable offences, he said.
