HYDERABAD: Stefanie Voegele was as business-like as her nation's famed to be. The Swiss shot out Geeta Manohar 6-2, 6-3 in a terse first round contest of the $10,000 ITF women's circuit tournament at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh tennis complex courts here on Tuesday. There was a sting to almost every shot the fourth-seeded Voegele let loose. Be it to the corners or down the line, her no-frills game had the gritty Geeta on the backfoot, time and again. Voegele gave little leeway, wresting the Indian's serve in games five and seven of the first set. Geeta, helped by some unforced errors by Voegele, had a break in the eighth game of the second set. But that was all she managed as Voegele turned the tables in the very next game to take the set and match. Earlier, Gunuganti Janaki, up 4-2 in the first set against Kim Hae-Sung, didn't quite enforce that edge. The Korean's power-packed game saw the youngster from Hyderabad unable to keep pace as she sank to a 4-6, 0-6 defeat. The results (Indians unless specified): Singles: Kim Hae Sung (Kor) bt G. Janaki 6-4, 6-0, Stefanie Voegele (Sui) bt Geeta Manohar 6-2, 6-3, Kim Ji-Young (Kor) bt Sonal Phadke 6-4, 6-1, Isha Lakhani bt Kao Shao-Yuan (Tpe) 6-2, 6-2, Liu Amber (USA) bt Vishika Chhetri 6-2, 6-4, Feys Debbrich (Bel) bt Esha Sanghvi 6-1, 6-1, Cho Jeong-A (Kor) bt Parija Maloo 6-4, 6-0, Septi Mende (Ina) bt Lee Wei-Ping (Sin) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Doubles: Chen Yi (Tpe)/Liu Wan-Ting (Chn) bt Akshitha Basavaraju/Ashmitha Easwaramurthi 6-0, 6-0, Sanaa Bhambri/Isha Lakhani bt Mutsuko Hirose (Jpn)/Shao Yuan Kao (Tpe) 7-6(6), 7-5, Kim Hae-Sung (Kor)/Mariana Muci-Torres (Ven) bt Prerana Mythri Appineni/Abby Hedges (Aus) 6-1, 6-1.
