A photograph on display in the exhibition.
For all those who never got to view a spectacular solar eclipse, this is a not-to-be-missed opportunity. An exhibition of photographs of solar eclipses has been mounted at Nehru Planetarium in the Capital. According to Nehru Planetarium Director N. Rathnasree, on display are photographs of historic paintings depicting the eclipse from across the world. The most compelling pictures of the March 19 partial solar eclipse have also been displayed, she says.
The Nehru Planetarium, Amateur Astronomers' Association, Delhi, (AAAD) and S.P.A.C.E, a non-government organisation, had taken images of the eclipse with Delhi's
Beautiful pictures of the phenomenon taken by Ashoo Sharma of AAAD showing the eclipse from the Red Fort are on view. Another picture of the eclipse portrays the partial solar eclipse against the Deewan-e-Khas at Red Fort.
Artist Rajesh Harsh has presented contemporary art related to the eclipse.
Other photographs of eclipses captured by members of the Nehru Planetarium and AAAD since 1995 have also been mounted.
The Nehru Planetarium authorities have travelled back in time to present representations of the solar eclipse in classical art. Though depiction of the solar eclipse is considered rare in Indian classical art, exceptions exist like the Ragamala series of paintings found at Bundi in Rajasthan, says Dr. Rathnasree.
The exhibition is on view up to April-end. -- P. Anima
