A NEW INNINGS: Actress Sonali Bendre Behl in New Delhi on Tuesday. Photo: S. Subramanium
Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre Behl is enjoying her conjugal bliss so much that she has taken a sabbatical from films. "I am a homemaker, wife and mother these days. I have a son, Ranvir, who needs all my attention. I acted for two and a half years after marriage, but I did not want to become a working mother. I am not going to act in films for a long time," says Sonali. But the talented actress still derives creative satisfaction by doing theatre. She has acted in "Aap Ki Soniya'' that has been staged in various cities to generate funds for charitable causes. It is a sequel to "Tumhari Amrita''. Although Sonali is enthused by her husband Goldie Behl's home production "Drona", she claims she is not "interfering" in the film. "Drona is Goldie's film. Since it is not my film, I am not giving any inputs to him," says Sonali, who was in the Capital on Tuesday to promote a new jewellery line. About the upcoming marriage between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, Sonali says she is extremely happy that they are tying the knot. "Abhishek is a wonderful friend and Aishwarya a warm person. I wish them all the best," she says, adding that the media must not be intrusive and allow the couple to share a few private moments. On so many film stars endorsing so many big brands these days, Sonali says: "Obviously Bollywood actors do make a difference, but it is not fair for me to comment on whether it helps in promoting the product. I think people who promote big brands are knowledgeable people and this question should be directed at them." The actress started as a model before joining films and giving meaningful performances in "Kal Ho Naa Ho" and "Sarfarosh". -- Madhur Tankha
