THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the assumption of office of the first Government of united Kerala in a grand manner. A committee with Governor R.L. Bhatia as chief patron, the former Chief Ministers K. Karunakaran, A.K. Antony and Oommen Chandy and Speaker K. Radhakrishnan as patrons, and Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan as chairman has been constituted for organising the celebrations. Mr. Bhatia will inaugurate the celebrations in the old Assembly Hall on April 5 when the EMS Government was sworn-in. The Chief Minister will preside. The former Chief Ministers, including Mr. Karunakaran, the Speaker, Food Minister C. Divakaran, Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas, Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran, Public Works Minister T.U. Kuruvilla, Education Minister M.A. Baby and Law Minister M. Vijayakumar will participate. An exhibition of the archives of the 1957-59 period will open in the front portion of the Assembly building on the same day. It will continue till April 10. The exhibition will be organised in other districts from April 12 to 31. It is being organised jointly by the Departments of Archives, Archaeology and Information and Public Relations. The Education Minister spoke on the programmes being organised at a meeting of Ministers, representatives of political parties and officials held in the Assembly complex. It was attended by Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran, K.E. Ismail, MP, Thalekunnil Basheer, N. Peethambara Kurup, Chief Secretary Lizzie Jacob, and the heads of departments and academies.
