No land will be acquired without consent: Sukhbir

`Akali-BJP Govt. committed to eradicating corruption'

  • New excise policy to be announced soon, says Akali acting chief
  • Steps being taken for introducing e-governance in administration

Hoshiarpur: Asserting that the Akali Dal-BJP alliance Government in Punjab was committed to eradicate corruption, Akali acting president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said computerisation of land revenue records and issuance of various licenses would be done on priority basis.

Talking to reporters here, he said steps were being taken for introducing the e-governance in the State administration.

``It would not only bring complete transparency in the Government functioning but also help in eradicating corruption,'' he said.

    Probe demanded

Referring to certain allegations levelled by Maninderjit Singh Bitta, chief of All India Anti-Terrorist Front, against former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Mr. Badal demanded a probe by the Union Home Ministry or the External Affairs Ministry into these allegations to bring out the truth.

He said the ruling alliance had a clear-cut policy regarding acquisition of land for any of the project.

No land would be acquired without the consent of the farmers, Mr. Badal said adding a district level land acquisition committee consisting of respective Deputy Commissioner, MLA and Sarpanch of the area would be constituted to ascertain the market price to be offered to the concerned farmer along with 25 per cent extra money for acquiring the land.

    Liquor trade

Replying to a question, he alleged that mafia was dominating the liquor trade during Congress regime. The new excise policy would soon be announced to eliminate the mafia, he added.

Mr. Badal said the State vigilance department has registered a case in connection with the Ludhiana city scam case on the basis of media reports and it would do according to the situation. ``The State Government has nothing to do in it.''

    Developmental activities

He also spoke about the new Government's developmental activities in various fields, including power, education and checking of drug abuse.

Regarding supply of wheat flour at Rs 4 per kg and pulses at Rs 20 per kg to those whose annual income was below Rs 30,000, he said identification of such families was being done. ``As soon as such families were identified, supply of wheat flour and pulses would be started,'' he said.
