One held, 3000 litres of diesel seized

JAMMU: One person was arrested and 3000 litres of diesel was seized from his possession in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.

Acting on a tip off, police raided the house of one Som Raj in Kallar Chawniin village in the district and caught him when an army truck was un-loading the diesel at his house, they said.

However, army men managed to escape with the vehicle, they said, adding 3000 litres of fuel was recovered from his house during the raid.

A case has been registered in this connection and police have not ruled out the involvement of some senior Army officials from the nearby units in the case, they said. Taking cognizance of smuggling of fuel meant for army from various border units, army too has ordered an inquiry into the matter. Personnel involved in the case found guilty will be punished as per Army rules, they said.
