BHOPAL: Aiming to give a new impetus to Sanskrit in Madhya Pradesh, the State Government has decided to constitute a body to look after the promotion of the language. The State Sanskrit Board, State Yoga Training Centre and Jeevaji Observatory will merge with the proposed Maharshi Patanjali Sanskrit Sansthanam. A Bill will be soon brought in the Assembly for formation of the body, School Education Minister and Chairman of Sanskrit Board Narottam Mishra said at a press conference here on Tuesday. The State Government has decided to make Sanskrit a compulsory subject in standards VIII, X and XII, he said. Plans were also afoot to appoint around 175 teachers for teaching Sanskrit in rural areas, he said, adding the appointments will be initially made on an experimental basis in Katni district. He said a Bill that paved the way for formation of a Sanskrit University in the state had been passed in the Assembly and was awaiting Governor Balram Jakhar's approval. The Minister also announced several state-level awards for promotion and achievements in sanskrit.
