Dileep Kumar, Ramaiah's win brings cheer

Staff Reporter

Dileep's victory indicates TRS presence in Khammam and Nalgonda

NALGONDA: The pro-Telangana forces are jubilant over the victory of Kapilavai Dileep Kumar and Chukka Ramaiah in the prestigious elections for Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal graduates and teachers' constituency respectively.

Though Mr. Ramaiah's victory was a foregone conclusion for many quarters in the teaching community, Mr. Dileep's win is a bolt from the blue for many given the Telangana Rastra Samithi's nominal presence in Khammam and Nalgonda districts.

Mr. Ramaiah, in fact, has not spoken about the formation of a separate State but he has highlighted the "injustice" meted out to this backward region.

He has always maintained that he will work with forces that fight against injustice done to the region.

In addition to the demand for the establishment of an IIT at Basara, the abode of Saraswathi, Mr. Ramaiah went hammer and tongues at the attempts to corporatise education in the public sector.

Braving the heat weather, the "chaduvula tata" (grandpa in education field) visited a number of educational institutions in three districts to make it to the council in his second attempt.

Though some organisations went back on supporting the expert coach for IIT entrance, the United Teachers Federation has done a lot to garner support for him.

Mr. Dileep, who gave up a cushy job in the Forest Department to join the TRS, has pulled all strings together to garner support.

Many people know Mr. Dileep indirectly as he has worked as personal secretary for three Ministers— Madhava Reddy, Uma Madhava Reddy and K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the TRS president.

Telangana wave

"It (Mr.Dileep's victory) clearly indicates that there is a strong Telangana wave even in Khammam and Nalgonda districts," the Telangana Writers Forum secretary Venu Sankoju says adding that many second and third preferential votes have gone in favour of the TRS candidate.

Buggaveeti Sarala (CPI-M) and Parupalli Gorki (CPI) shared the Communist votes making Mr.Dileep's task easy.
