Stepfather, his cousin arrested on charge of throttling the boy to death

HYDERABAD: A nine-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from L. B. Nagar on Saturday, was murdered allegedly by his stepfather for a land worth Rs.20 lakhs at Sainagar Colony in the same locality. The boy's body was set afire at Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar district the same day, the police said.

The police suspected the boy to have been burnt on Saturday itself.

The Cyberabad police on Monday arrested prime accused G. Karunakar Reddy (35) along with his cousin Bhopal Reddy (40) on the charge of throttling Gagan Satya Slok Reddy to death. The duo had abducted Gagan, a fourth-standard student, in a car while he was returning home from his Dilsukhnagar Public School, the police said.

Cyberabad Commissioner of Police S. Prabhakar Reddy, addressing a press conference, said the motive behind the killing was acquiring the 250 square yard land registered in Gagan's name. The accused had also requested the boy's mother Madhubala and grandfather Someswar Reddy to transfer the land on his name.

Karunakar married Madhubala on March 23, 2006, after the death of her husband Ramakrishna Reddy. His first wife Radhika died in 2005. Both of them had sons before they got remarried. After marriage, the couple was staying at Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar while Gagan at Someswar's house in Sainagar.

However, Radhika's relatives began pressuring him to return the land registered in the name of her son Arshid (4). "They had threatened to kill me if I failed to return the land. Then I got an idea that if I killed Gagan, Madhubala would get the property and hence decided to eliminate him," Karunakar told reporters.
