Call for bandh in Adilabad today

Staff Reporter

Basar IIT Samiti opposes `forcible' shifting of agitating leaders in Hyderabad

ADILABAD: The Basar IIT Sadhana Samiti has called for an Adilabad district bandh on Wednesday protesting against `forcible' shifting of its agitating leaders at Hyderabad to Gandhi Hospital in the dead of the night. However, RTC buses will be exempted from the strike in view of the ongoing SSC exams.

At a press meet here on Tuesday Adilabad MP T. Madhusudan Reddy and others termed the removal of the hunger strike camp wherein Asifabad MLA A. Sridevi and TDP leader S. Venugopalachary were staging indefinite hunger strike as an "undemocratic and oppressive act." The MP appealed to Congress MLAs from the district to support IIT at Basar on the adjournment motion being moved by the Opposition on March 28 in the Assembly. Answering a question, Mr. Madhusudan Reddy said the Samiti could not undertake `jail bharo' programme because the police were not arresting them. Later, activists of the Samiti burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in front of the bus stand.
