HelpAge India's gesture

The HelpAge India donated Rs. 2.21 lakhs to Asha Nilayam St. Anthony Hospital at Gollapudi near here on Tuesday.

The fund would be utilised for distributing pulses, oil, medicines, soaps and other essential commodities to 120 aged people, according to a press release.

Drainage works begin

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) began works for the new drainage system at State Bank Colony-II in Division 18 on Tuesday, according to corporator S. Phillips Gritton. He said that Rs. 5.5 crores was released for the works under JNNURM scheme.

CITU plea

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has urged the government to address the demands of the Village Servants who have been on strike since March 22. CITU general secretary D.V. Krishna said that the government did not take any action though Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy assured the Assembly that the government would solve the problems on March 6.
