Two killed in wall collapse

Another two suspected to be trapped under the debris

VISAKHAPATNAM : Two workers were dragged out dead while another two were suspected to be trapped under the debris when the wall of a private godown collapsed near the RTC Depot in the 47th ward at Gajuwaka here on Tuesday evening.

The dead were identified as Appalanaidu and Govind. Both were in the age group of 25 to 30 years.

According to Ravi Varma, CI Gajuwaka Police Station, 14 workers were in the godown around 5 p.m. when a wall collapsed and fell on them. While nine workers escaped out of which six sustained minor injuries, five were trapped under wheat loads and debris. On getting information, police reached the spot around 6 p.m. and requisitioned the services of gas cutters and a poclain. After a search, one worker whose leg was broken was pulled out and two were hauled up dead from under the debris. All the injured were admitted to a private hospital at Gajuwaka. Search for the remaining two workers continued till late in the night. The CI felt that it would take at least 10 hours to clear the debris and pull out the trapped workers.
