MANGALORE: Sonia D'Souza, corporator representing Kulur-Kunjathbail ward, was reportedly assaulted by a group of 15 persons outside a hotel at Kankanady here late on Monday. The group allegedly damaged the windshield of a car, assaulted and threatened her acquaintances, according to a complaint lodged by Ms. D'Souza with the Mangalore East (Kadri) police station. The police said that Ms. D'Souza had gone to the hotel for dinner with four persons. The group, which surrounded the corporator when she was coming out, reportedly abused her for going out with youth from the other community. One of the members of the group allegedly slapped and kicked the corporator, while others reportedly smashed the windshield of the car belonging to her acquaintance, the police said. The group also reportedly assaulted the youth who were in the car. While the reason for the incident is not known, police suspect the involvement of local people.
