Rs. 2,311-crore credit plan for Dakshina Kannada district

    MANGALORE: The district consultative committee for banking development in Dakshina Kannada has ratified the district credit plan with an outlay of Rs. 2,311.95 crore for 2007-08 on Tuesday.

    The credit plan, released by Deputy Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao, is based on potential linked credit plan prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development

    The outlay represents an increase of 26 per cent over last year's plan, which was Rs. 1,830.55 crore.

    The share of priority sector is Rs. 1,611.61 crore, which accounts for 70 per cent of the total credit plan. The share of agriculture under priority sector is Rs. 608.81 crore, which constitutes 26 per cent of the total plan. The outlay for secondary and tertiary sectors is Rs. 287.56 crore and Rs. 715.84 crore, respectively.

    The advance for non-priority sector has been pegged at Rs. 700.34 crore.

    Contribution

    Commercial banks will contribute 78 per cent of the total outlay at Rs. 1,803.12 crore followed by South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank at Rs. 449.11 crore, regional rural banks Rs. 30.01 crore, primary credit agriculture rural development banks Rs. 18.71 crore and Karnataka State Financial Corporation 11 crore.

    The share of agriculture and allied sector is up at Rs. 608.21 crore in 2007-08 against Rs. 482.81 crore in 2006-07. Small-scale industries and non-farm sector account for Rs. 287.56 crore in 2007-08 against Rs. 246.07 crore in 2006-07.

    Outlay for other priority sectors is Rs. 715.84 crore in 2007-08 against Rs. 633.51 crore in 2006-07.

    Banks have also made allocations under the credit plan for lending under different government-sponsored schemes to the tune of Rs. 47.45 crore.

    Out of this amount, Rs. 8.83 crore is earmarked for Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, Rs. 8.67 crore for Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana, Rs. 1.43 crore for Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana and Rs. 28.52 crore for other schemes. Noting that tertiary sector enjoyed a stronghold in the economy compared to agriculture sector, Mr. Rao advised the bankers to encourage farmers to go in for plantation activities, growing of horticulture crops, and promote farm mechanisation and greater credit linkage for self-help groups.Sushma Janardhan, president of the panchayat, presided over the function and released the e-plan brought out in a compact disk.

    Chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat A.M. Kunjappa, Praveenraj Udupa, assistant general manager, NABARD, said that the district stood second in the State in terms of total quantum of advances planned for priority sector.
