Coimbatore: The Corporation Commissioner, P. Muthuveeran, has announced that all slaughterhouses and meat stalls should remain closed on March 31 in view of the Mahaveer Jayanthi. Slaughtering of animals and sale of meat on the day would remain prohibited. The Corporation slaughterhouses at Ukkadam, Singanallur and Sathyamangalam Road would remain closed. Meat stalls selling poultry, goat and beef meat should down their shutters. Failure to comply with the directives would result in stringent action against the violators, the release said.
Pig rearing
In another release, Mr. Muthuveeran has pointed out that certain people are rearing pigs within the Corporation limits. The letting of pigs on to the roads freely had not only disturbed the flow of traffic but had also caused accidents. Letting the pigs had resulted in polluting the surrounding areas leading to health hazards. It would also result in spreading of brain fever and various other contagious diseases. Hence, those involved in pig rearing were being advised to shift their activities outside the Corporation limits. Failing to comply with the directive would lead to Corporation removing the pigs and collecting the shifting charges from those indulging in such rearing. In addition stringent action would be initiated against those who failed to comply with the directive, the release said.
