The Hindu felicitates its news agents

  • 17 news agents, who completed 25 years of service are honoured
  • `News agents play vital role in bringing newspaper to readers'

    HYDERABAD: It was a special moment for each and every one present. It marked the recognition that they were all part of one big family.That was the mood at a function organised by The Hindu , Hyderabad region, to honour news agents who had been making the newspaper available to readers year after year. In all, 17 news agents, who had completed 25 years of service, and 29, who were associated with The Hindu for 15 years, were honoured by the newspaper's Vice-President, Circulation, M.R. Sivakumar.

    Addressing the gathering of the news agents and their families at Hotel Minerva Grand on Tuesday, Mr. Sivakumar said the news agents played a vital role in bringing the newspaper to the readers.

    He told them how a bit of personal attention of readers' needs could make a difference. He took them on a journey of how from 80 copies in 1878 out of Chennai, The Hindu had grown across the length and breadth of India, with over 12.5 lakh copies today.

    News agents conveyed their feelings of appreciation at their growth, together with that of the newspaper over the decades. S. Sampath, news agent, Punjagutta, K.C. Ramaswamy (BHEL, Ramachandrapuram), N.C. Subbarayudu (Nandyal) and S. Gopalakrishnan (Chikkadpally) spoke. Regional General Manager, P. Ranga Reddy, The Hindu , Hyderabad who proposed a vote of thanks, said the daily enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship with the news agents. General Manager (Circulation) V. Ravi was present.
