Bangalore: Members of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have alleged that the case of a minor girl, daughter of poor landless labourers in Kanakapura taluk, was being hushed up by the police because of political pressure. BSP State vice-president Marasandra Muniyappa said that the nine-year-old girl in Chunchi Colony village was raped by an 18-year-old from the neighbouring village when her parents were away at work. When the parents tried to lodge a complaint, the police twisted the case and registered it as an "attempt to rape" incident, he alleged. The culprit was the son of a close associate of Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar. This "injustice" had been brought to the attention of the police officials, but no action has been taken, he alleged. Mother of the girl, Ramakka, who was present at the press conference, alleged that she had overheard a police officer instructing the doctor to "underplay" the crime in the medical report.
