BANGALORE: The State Government has opposed the anticipatory bail application of B.V. Seetharam and his wife, Rohini, saying they are writers, editors, printers, publishers and distributors of Kannada dailies Karavali Ale, Sanje Ale and Kannada Janataranga and that these newspapers were a platform for political write-ups. It said the petitioners had made vague allegations against the State and had not furnished all the details in their petition. This, it said, is sufficient for dismissal of the petition. The Inspector-General of Police, Infantry Road, is arrayed as a respondent whereas there is no such office on Infantry Road. It argued that the petition is not maintainable as both Mr. Seetharam and his wife are already arrested, detained in judicial custody and subsequently enlarged on bail in criminal cases registered with the Sagar Town and Panambur police stations. A complaint was lodged before Panambur police station by Rajavarma Ballal after the petitioners wrote highly mischievous and derogatory news, articles and published cartoons and photographs which disturbed the peace and tranquillity of society, it said. Moreover, two other accused, B.S. Shiva Prasad and Satish Vaidya, are absconding The State blamed the petitioners and Shiva Prasad and Vaidya for writing derogatory articles against a Jain Muni, Tarun Sagar. It said the coastal belt of Mangalore, Udupi and Karwar is communally sensitive and such articles could incite communal passions. The State has urged the court to dismiss the petitions and not to grant anticipatory bail to Mr. Seetharam and his wife. The case is slated to come up for hearing before Justice Mohan Shantangouder on Thursday.
