NELLORE: A team from the KfW German Development Bank has visited Nelatur to conduct a study pertaining to the proposed 2X800 MW coal-based Super Critical Thermal Power Station.

The German development bank team inspected all preparatory works that are required to commence the project work at Nelatur, which is 20 km away from Nellore.

Talks held

Prior to that the team held talks with district Collector M. Ravi Chandra and enquired about environmental as well as rehabilitation aspects pertaining to the Krishnapatnam Thermal Power Station (KTPS).

It may be recalled that APGenco has decided to set up KTPS with 2X 800 MW capacity with an estimated cost of Rs. 8,432 crores. And the KfW development bank has come forward to give financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 1,600 crores.

Given this backdrop, the bank has earlier conducted a preliminary enquiry at Nelatur, Krishnapatnam and other nearby areas.

As part of the study tour, the team members interacted with farmers of Nakkalamitta village, where the APGenco is planning to construct a colony for all the KTPS employees.

"The KfW team has expressed happiness over the progress of the work besides rehabilitation and relief measures," the district Collector claimed.According to APGenco officials, the first unit of the KTPS might be commissioned by 2010 and the second one by the end of 2011 only after meeting standards stipulated on environmental protection by the State and Central Pollution Control Boards as well as Ministry of Environment and Forest.
