BANGALORE: Two information technology majors, Accenture and Sun Microsystems, have together set up the Accenture Innovation Centre for Sun solutions at Bangalore. The process in this regard began some months ago and a staff of 50 with expertise in Solaris and Java are already at work, Sandeep Arora, Lead Executive, Accenture Delivery Centre for Technology, India, said here on Wednesday.

Joint teams of technologists from both companies would work on client projects, combining the offshore and onshore models, he said.

The centre will be dedicated to creating custom solutions for clients and for developing industrialised, repeatable and secure identity-enabled and service oriented architecture (SOA)-based solutions for a global clientele.

Without quantifying the investment involved, Alastair MacWilson, Managing Director, Global Security Practice, Accenture, said, "Our offshored work is fast increasing from 30 to 60 per cent of the projects undertaken for client companies. With many large corporates now going in for open access to their data, indentification and security have become critical to them. We may scale up the strength here as the needs of clients go up". With more work done in India, costs could be significantly lower for clients.

Accenture had recently announced $450 million investment in R&D, training and building industry-based solutions in the SOA area.

The staff here, consisting of engineers from both companies, will be dedicated to developing identity-enabled SOA-based solutions using Sun's software suite and its Solaris Operating System.
