Bangalore: For the first time in the country, a private company has set up a meteorological station. Vijay Raghavan, Director of the India Meteorological Department, inaugurated the station set up by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Ltd. (NICE), at Cloverleaf Junction in Somapura, near Kengeri, on Wednesday. As part of environment upgrading activities and as one of the conditions for environment clearance, the project authorities had to provide and maintain inter alia ambient air quality monitoring system. The station had been set up for that, a release said. The observatory was established with the guidance of the Meteorological Department. Ambient air quality monitoring stations would be established at other sites too. NICE had planned to set up nine such stations along the road. They would be set up as and when the roadwork progressed, the release said. Sai Prasad Rao, Administrator, India Meteorological Department, Bangalore, and officials of NICE were present on the occasion.
