HYDERABAD: N. Jothi, advocate of AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, has issued a clarification on the news item "Jayalalithaa: Lands in A.P. not assigned" published in these columns on March 28. He said the fact of Ms. Jayalalithaa purchasing the lands in 1968 was placed before the Revenue authorities and not during 1956-58 as mentioned in the report. He also said: "The Revenue authorities of the A.P. Government have admitted that they did not possess a copy of the alleged assignment deed, nor any proceedings of such assignment. They have very clearly admitted that they have no documentary proof about the nature of assignment conditions thereof, etc. My client is a bona fide purchaser on the valid consideration from the successor in title. The proceedings are vexatious, politically motivated just to harass my client." The Revenue authorities here, however, affirmed that they had proper documentary evidence that the lands, indeed, were assigned lands.
