Naidu: we will adopt pro-poor approach

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: On the eve of the silver jubilee of Telugu Desam's formation, party president N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that his party would focus on ensuring the benefits of reforms reach the poor and farmers get remunerative prices.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, he lamented that only the rich were reaping the fruits of reforms, while the poor were becoming poorer. The TDP from the beginning had been calling for reforms with a human face and the issue would be discussed with other like-minded parties at national level for evolving policies to remove poverty "which is a curse".

Recalling words of TDP founder and former Chief Minister N.T.Rama Rao that "society is a temple and poor people are the gods", Mr. Naidu said there was a need to review the extent to which the reforms had benefited the common man.

On Telangana, he said the party was watching the political situation and would respond at "appropriate time".
