Lok Adalat for public utility service cases

HYDERABAD: A permanent Lok Adalat of Legal Service Authority to deal with issues related to public utility services in the twin cities, has started to function in Metropolitan Criminal Courts, Red Hills, according to a press release from Chairman of Permanent Lok Adalat K. Ashok Babu here .

The Lok Adalat would decide on disputes related to transport services for passengers, goods by air, road or water, postal, telegraph and telephone problems of the customers.

The problems could be related to supply of power, light, water to public, sanitation and disputes related to services in hospitals or dispensaries.

The new Lok Adalat would also look into disputes related to banking and other financial institutions.

The Lok Adalat would have jurisdiction over disputes valued up to Rs. 10 lakhs and over compoundable offences.

Free service

Mr. Babu informed that once an application is made permanent in the Lok Adalat, no party to that application would be able to approach any other court pertaining to the same matter.

The services offered in the Lok Adalat is free of cost and Form No. III applications would also be available free of cost and can be filed in person or by agent or through advocate, the release said.
