Hyderabad: Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb, religious and temporal head of Dawoodi Bohra community, arrived here to a rousing welcome on Wednesday. A large number of men and women belonging to the Bohra community gathered at the municipal playground at Red Hills to receive their spiritual leader.

The Syedna was touched by the grand reception and said he was happy to be in Hyderabad. "I love you more than you love me," he remarked to loud cheers by the community.

In his brief speech, the Dai-ul-Mutlaq, as he is regarded, broke down several times. He recalled the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Husain, the grandson of the Prophet of Islam, and prayed that there should be no grief other than the grief of his martyrdom. The gathering responded by beating their chests to the cries of `Yas Husain'.

He prayed for the prosperity and health of the community and said he would be in the city for a few days. Earlier, the aged leader was carried in a `palki' to the dais as men and women craned to catch a glimpse of him.

Blowing of trumpets and playing of `marfa' marked the traditional welcome accorded to him.

On Thursday the Syedna will inaugurate the Dawoodi Bohra Masjid at Red Hills.

He will also perform the `rasme saifee' (communal wedding).
